Polina Bishenden

Biography

Polina is a Stage Three Politics and International Relations student from Russia at the University of Kent, whose academic interest lies in gender equality.

Having been a part of KentMUN for two years, Polina has extensive conference experience. For Polina, Model UN is a unique way to gain perspective on diverse issues. As KentMUN Director of Outreach for 2017/2018, Polina heads the Society’s Outreach Division and the team of Outreach Officers who are responsible for establishing partnerships with schools in the local community to teach MUN to. In addition, the Outreach Division is also responsible for the Society’s Guassay Children’s Initiative. A collaborative effort between Mary’s Meals and KentMUN to raise funds to meet the immediate needs of hungry children at Guassay Public Primary School in Liberia, and encourage them to attend school to gain an education that can, in the future, be their ladder out of poverty.

Outside Model UN, Polina enjoys working with the Russian Speaking Eastern European Association in Medway. As part of her role with the association, Polina encourages bilingual children to learn about Russian and Eastern European culture. She looks forward to working throughout the year with the committee to help make KentMUN all that it can be!

What is the best advice you have ever been given
There is a saying 'трус умирает дважды'. This means 'a coward dies twice'. I hear this often from babushkas (grandmothers) and mum. It reminds me to worry less.
Describe KentMUN in one sentence
KentMUN has inspired me in so many different ways, it is truly the best student led organisation at the University of Kent.
